Chicks can be seriously mislabeled, or get mixed around in the bins/cages at stores. I got a lovely (and have no regrets about it!) Amberlink hen, who I was told was a Buff Orpington.
White chickens are fairly easy to tell apart from buff ones...they're a pure light yellow as chicks, and the buff are 'tanned,' or have more color. And then the buffs and reds you can tell apart...the buffs are lighter, I'd say, and the reds (though shade may vary), are...well.. red.
