So, my husband on a whim bought two baby ducks from TSC for our anniversary! We had baby chicks at the same time and kept the ducklings and the chicks together. Funny thing is, now they think they are chickens...I guess, cause the all stay together free range even now (or maybe it's the other way around, lol!) Anyway, I've not been able to figure out what breed they are and would like to know so whatever research I do is relevant to the breed, such as how often they lay eggs, breeding habits, nesting, etc.

Thanks for any info!

TSC usually sell pekin and mallards, so I would guess its a pekin. We have a pekin but I only saw it a few times until it was six months old. There are a lot of ducklings that look a like to me so I could be wrong.

They are beautiful though! Our TSC said they weren't getting any more in this season. I would love to have another pekin but then I would have to get two so it would have a friend it's own age and I'm not sure how many if any I could fit in their pen.

I would say they are both Pekins- but one has a much rounder head than the other. Hard to tell just seeing them on the water- but the closer one does have a head shape more like an Indian Runner than a Pekin.

they are both gorgeous and look extremely happy though.

I'm in Illinois, and our TSC only had Pekins. I also noticed that their heads are shaped differently, and the one closest does have more of a runner-shaped head, but from this pic they appear to be the same size. My Pekin and Runner are the same age, and have been drastically different in size from about 2 weeks old. They both are adorable!

Thanks everyone! That gives me somewhere to start. They are the funniest little things. I love watching them waddle around with the chickens...those little webbed feet just move!!!!
