OK....this is a terrible photo for identifying a chick. We cant see its leg's or the coloring of it's chest. This is just a dark blackish chick from a distance. Put it in a very well lit room and set it on a counter and take a close photo that shows it's full body. Also where did it come from? That will help to narrow down the options.

I also got them from tlc
They told me but I forget I believe it started with a m if this helps
Thanks

The photo is still pretty blurry and dark, so it is hard to be certain; plus a lot of chicks look similar at this age.

If you think its name began with an M, it may be a Marans. Breeder quality French Marans have leg feathers, but many lines from hatcheries do not, so that doesn't help distinguish it further. It might be a Black Minorca. Just from appearance, other possibilities are Black Sex Link or Australorp...but usually Australorps are more penguine like.

My best guess with pic and info. Do you know if it was a layer type? Or game or specialty type? That can help further, and open up a whole new set of possibilities.

You may need to wait until it gains most of its adult feathers and resubmit a photo, or scan through the feathersite.com looking at those breed possibilities as it grows. That site is really good about showing photos of all stages of the breed.

Enjoy your little one.

I agree with the above quotes. The chick is too young to identify its breed with any real degree of accuracy as there are a number of breeds that have chicks that look similar to yours including Black Copper Marans, Black Minorcas, Black Sex Links, Black Australorps, etc. I would recommend posting its pic again in about 6 weeks. By then the breed (and perhaps the gender as well) should be obvious.

Tlc told me they lay large white eggs
If this also helps thanks again
