I adopted 5 white hens about two months ago. I was told they were about a year old and was also unsure of the breed. They have yet to lay. Several on this forum told me the transition and the heat would delay their laying temporarily. I thought they were Leghorns. Now I'm not sure. From the forum pics they look more like White Rocks. Then today on the forum I saw a white EE hen. If anyone could send photos to help me I would really appreciate it. Sorry I don't have pictures of my girls yet. I'm working on it.

Your best bet is to go to a hatchery website and look at the pics they have posted there. You can find a whole list of them here:
www.CountryChickens.com.

Start with the "big name" hatcheries, like Ideal and McMurray. They have excellent pictures of both grown birds and chicks.

Once they start laying you'll know. If they lay brown eggs, they are White Rocks. If they are white, the Leghorns.

Also, you can tell by looking at their earlobes. If the earlobes are red, then they're White rocks, if white then they're Leghorns.

Our White Rocks in size are huge hens. We had one to sit on eggs and then hatched out plus adopted some others. She looks like a small white turkey when her chicks are under her. White Rocks are big birds and don't have the lay over comb like leghorns do either.
