What breed is better for what I ALREADY HAVE

i AM not sure if this is the correct index for what I would like to know. WE now have 3 rir 9 months old and l welsummer, probably old,and am looking to expand our flock, with some laying hens now ready and some chicks, unsure on what breed. WE just heard of some one having chciks now, rir l week old, and some barred rocks, mixed, ausstttttttttralope to be hatched soon. My hubby would like long horns but I have heard they can be flighty. ALso we are only looking for laying hens only. aNY ADVICE. i WOULD like to have some mixed flocks, all hens and layiong

I would get barred rocks and leghorns to go with what you already have.

leghorns are flighty and don't really like to be touch.
The barred rocks, Rhode island reds and austrolorps are great egg layers and can even lay double yoke for you if you are lucky. Mine did.

1. Not all leghorns are flighty. I've had some that were no more flighty than any of the other chickens I had at the time.

2. Not everyone makes pets out of their chickens -- some of us keep them for practical reasons such as eggs and meat. So being able to touch the hens isn't an important criteria for everyone. (I have Wyandottes and Easter Eggers laying right now, and other than when I put their feed out, I can't touch any of them -- and I don't care. If I need to catch them, I can do it while they are gobbling feed, or wait until they go to bed and take them off the roosts.)
