What breed is it?

I hatched eggs from a local farm advertised as "backyard mix". I got 2 silkies, and a few more traditional hens. Can anyone identify this guy? About 12 weeks old. Also not sure if it's male or female.

Definitely a cockerel and likely a Silkie mix

I was gonna say that crest makes me think polish.

If you have some more photos, it almost looks like saddle feathers on the back, but could be the angle/lighting

I was thinking silkie polish mix, and I think its a hen all my silkies I was able to tell the gender after about 9 weeks of age.

He has very obvious pointed saddle feathers. I wouldn’t assume he’s a Polish x Silkie because his crest is quite small. Mottling is also recessive and not commonly seen in Polish. I would assume he’s a Satin or Cochin x Silkie

I see what you mean, its definitely a rooster, but I dont think its a cochin cross I think its probably satin x silkie or polish x silkie
