I have a couple of hens that I cannot seem to figure what breed they are. I'm hoping someone will be able to enlighten me. Here is a picture of one hen. The other is a light buff with a slightly darker head and neck. Of course it's the one on the right...

It looks like either a splash old English game bantam or splash Dutch bantam. The former is more common and more likely.
Thank-you. I was thinking Old English myself. But, I can't find any pictures that resemble a hen with her color and spotting. The other hen is a more common color of the old English. They were TSC bought and, quite frankly, I'm surprised they lived.

Splash is a variable color. Birds with that pattern can have spots anywhere, and the background color can be white to a light shade of blue. So you probably wouldn't find a bird with her exact pattern.

Cool. I'm still learning about chickens. I've had my Bantams for 2 years now. My grandfather raised chickens for as long as I can remember. He's passed now, but oh how he would laugh at my "little chickens"! He would tell me to get real ones. But, he would've still been proud of me.

Bantams are fun! I'm sure he would be pleased you are carrying on the tradition. And bantams can lay well, too. I use a scale so I know how many bantam eggs to use for recipes.

Some weeks, I will get 1 egg per hen per day. Some days they get lazy and, I get nothing. They are really good to eat, though, very rich. I give them fresh herbs and veggies a few times per week. I wish I could let them free roam, but the irresponsible neighbors do not keep their dogs contained. I've lost my favorite rooster already. Those dogs will not get another....
