Hi, I was hoping someone could help me identify this hen? She was given to me after after her flock members passed away. At first I thought she may be a cuckoo Maran, however, she is too large and her eggs are very light tan. I settled on a Plymouth Rock despite having the incorrect leg colour. I now wonder if she is something else? She is in my mixed pen and she is almost as large as my full grown Brahma hen. This is the best photo I have. I will upload more soon.

It's helpful to know the original source of the bird. Hatchery, store, backyard breeder? Without that info it is a guessing game.

She could well be a mix. I think you are right that she is not a purebred cuckoo Marans. Too large, feathers too loose and fluffy.

Barred rock is possible-- sometimes leg color leaches out after heavy egg production. This is usually a temporary thing. But my bet is still a mix of some kind.

Hey I’m really sorry but I don’t know anymore about her. My mother in law was given her, and she was then given to me. All I know is the original lady who owned her had a flock of different breeds of chickens. She didn’t breed herself she just had laying hens. Her background beyond that is a mystery to me!!

Thanks for the reply!
Are Barred Rock usually as large as she is?
She has lovely light tan eggs which she lays 5 days a week. She is the top of the pecking order even above my Brahma and has white pale legs!!
Yes. They are fairly large. Egg color varies from brown to cream(Tan).
