What breed of rooster is docile?

I have about 25 hens and would like to get a rooster that wont peck me--which breeds are the most docile? Also would I best get a grown rooster or a chick? i am looking for the best rooster for me and my hens... All thoughts are appreciated!

The personality of a chicken is far more individual than anything. I've heard of the most docile guys from a "generally aggressive" breed and then I've also heard of a really aggressive guy from a "generally docile" breed. It also has a lot to do with the keeper and the bird. Their temperament changes as they age, so it might be better to get an adult. Chicks go through so many changes, including personality, so it would be quite some time before you know the true personality of a young cockerel. I'd probably choose a breed that you'd like to mate with your girls.

I personally have had 4 aggressive cockerels/roosters. They were a Buff Orpington, a Barred Rock, a Crested Cream Legbar crossed with BCM, and a Silkie Cockerel. My Barred Bantam Cochin does not like my daughter but seems to enjoy being around me. I have a really sweet, gentle, and protective (I consider him a very smart bird~ he attacks his bachelor flockmates when he senses they are going to attack me) Crested Cream Legbar crossed with BCM. I also have a wonderful silkie cockerel. The sweet and gentle guys are both heads of their flocks. After experiencing these guys (I have 11 cockerels/roosters), I can agree with others, that personality/demeanor is an individual trait.

Standard or bantam rooster? I can give you breeds I have and haven't had problems with as examples but no breed only has good roosters

Cochin and Orpington roosters are usually friendly.

Months ago, I bought the silliest-looking rooster at a local market because he looked “cute” with lots of feathers and a droopy comb.

He turned out to be not only a friendly rooster but also a good father to at least 18 broody-raised chicks!

My hens are Delaware, Rhode Island Red, Plymouth Rock, Black Sex Link, Noir Maran, Buff Opington, and Easter Eggers - Large to medium size breeds
