I have 2 chicks that are about 9 weeks old. I thought they where barred rocks but i am now think they may be Marans What do you all think and do you think the lighter one is a roo ?

Your chicks do not look exactly like my Barred Rock named "Stew".

I figured it out. Here is a photo of my chicken "Stew".

Those are Barred Rocks, Cuckoo Marans have pink/white legs, BR have yellow legs like yours do. Hatchery quality BR's barring will vary from bird to bird -- they don't breed for high quality appearance. And yes, the lighter one is a cockerel.

the first looks like a dom. as it doesnt appear to have a straight comb. 2nd one also appears like it doesnt have a straight comb so dom also. (if they have straight combs then you have br). the first one does appear to be a roo

Thank you for your responce on this chicken tail. I will have to relocate the roo because i am in the city limits. and i already have one roo and he stays in the house when we go out.

both look like Dominiques, they both have rose combs(or it looks like it in the picture). First is a roo.

Barred rocks. The lighter one looks like a hen. Can't tell with the darker one.

I think the first one is a barred rock pullet my friend has a BR a little older that's a rooster and he already had a very red comb at that age, your chickens looks pink.
