I'm sure that we've all been there. We've had the "Perfect" flock minus one or two chickens and often times they are a different breed than the rest of the flock. For me, the breed that I wish I didn't have is the bantam cochin. I have two who are three months old that I got for my nephew and if they weren't his I'd get rid of them already. In a flock of different ages, these two are the only ones that actively seek out younger chicks to attack. Fortunately, I was able to introduce most of the chicks younger than these two girls all at one time and I have two roos in the mix that are already protecting their girls. The rest of my hens have no problem with the younger chicks, even my veteran hens, only those two pullets go after anything smaller than them.

I've also had some less than desirable orpingtons in the past. One was buff and one was a lavender and both were roos that were aggressive with humans.

So, what breeds have you added to your flock to later regret? Why?

Well, I started my flock off with 9 chickens from the pulleys section. Turns out, they indeed all were girls! :ya Then, I got 6 more and they too were girls. I have 15 hens, 8 different breeds: 3 Golden Sex Links, 2 Barred Plymouth Rocks, 2 Orloffs, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 3 Leghorns, 1 Americauna,1 Golden Campine Bantam, and 1 I-Dunno-What hen. I think I've got my dream flock. The legions are flighty and anti-social, unlike my other birds, but that's alright. For the most part, they all let me pet them. They're so spoiled!:yiipchick

I have liked most of the breeds I have gotten, I had some leghorns that were just filthy dirty, when the rest of the flock looked clean. In fact, if I hadn't all ready ordered the Delawares , I don't think I would have, as they were white chickens too. Loved my delawares, but they were slow to mature, but were hatched kind of late in early June, so did not go to laying till January. Unfortunately, what was out there liked them too!

I got some EE in a gift of fertilized eggs, and really liked them. They are droll and inquisitive, and mine laid well. I did not like the BA's the rooster was mean, and the hens laid poorly. I have always like BO's, they have made my best broodies, although I am down to one, and she is getting older, wished I could have gotten a few BO chicks this spring but did not work out. I had welsummers, but I never liked them, but they did lay well, and I had a dark cornish ? that I got accidentally that was my first broody hen, and she was a favorite.

Currently, I have production reds that are fantastic layers, and dominques, which are not, but fantastic roos. Adding white rocks shortly, which I have never had before, and some more EE;s.

Wonderful hobby.

My chicks are still to young for laying yet, I do have one hen that came from the neighbors "Wanda" shes a white leghorn. She just started laying us one egg a day.
She's lovely around the babies. Will not let us touch her, but she isn't mean. Just skittish. I think she came from a production farm.
I have 3 red links, that are 9 weeks all are very friendly, love them.
3 Australorps.. 8 weeks, not mean just screamers.. Lord you would think that were killing them when we try to picking them up.
3 EE's.. 5 weeks.. Wish I got more. Friendly, come running when I open the door, great little birds.
3 light Brahma's.. 5 weeks.. Love their coloring, Feathered feet.. Quirky personalities.. But not real friendly.
Im new to chickens, so this has been fun learning about the different breeds etc, looking forward to our next step.. Eggs!!
