Hello! Picked up these boys today and I'm not positive on breeds....wanting a second opinion :)

The one looks like a bronze to me...the other is solid like a black, but is brown not black? Could he be a bourbon?

Thanks so much!

I think they are a mixed breed. The one that looks bronze looks darker than a bronze would be and the brown could be a chocolate, but I haven't actually seen one in person. It's possible there's bourbon in the mix.

My guess would be a chocolate and a muttly bronze. Should get some really good pictures of their fans and wings.

View attachment 1082839 Thank y'all so much! Is a chocolate a breed of it's own? Or a variation of another breed?

Here is a picture of their fans :)

Yep it looks like a chocolate and a bronze to me. To my knowledge there are only two "breeds" heritage and broad breasted. Within that, broad breasted are bronze or white in coloring. Heritage on the other hand have numerous colors and patterns/varieties. I would suggest looking at Porters Heritage Turkeys. Their explanation on genotype/ phenotype is amazing and extremely helpful. Their site helped me realize that my what I thought were royal palms are actually semi pencilled RP with a recessive red gene.

I will look into that- thank you so much for all your help! My kids are already in love with them haha.

Turkeys are amazing and extremely entertaining. I absolutely love and adore them. What started out as 4 broad breasted turkeys for meat last year, has turned into about 90 birds this year that I don't want to get rid of ;)

90!! Oh my goodness! I am not one to talk because my animal ventures always turn into that as well, haha!

I wanted a "pair" of ducks- two months later we have 11....I wanted a "few" chickens, now were up to 35...you understand! Hahahaha

Do you have a picture of your whole flock? I would LOVE to see that many turkeys in one place!

Sadly I don't have a picture of the entire flock. They are separated in groups of 20-25 based on age. I've noticed if there's more than a month in age difference they are more aggressive and fight a lot trying to figure out their hierarchy. Not even sure if I could find an area to put them all in to get a good picture ;)
