I think you'll get a better answer if you expalain; better for what? Meat, eggs, pets, cold hardy?.....

I LOVE my Australorp - they are good egg layers, good temperament, and the greenish sheen on those black feathers make them lookers too - I have been attacked by RIR too many times that I won't own one...but they are fantastic layers...

I agree -austrarulorps for sure! I had two and they were just great as pets and layers. I now have Rock Hens and they are a good breed too.

If you're interested in egglaying, then the production red is by far the best. Just my opinion though.
