Hello, so recently I went to check on my ducks and my Bluebell girl hurt her leg. I’m not sure how it happened, I have 7 girls and 1 male but they are all still pretty young and the male is only “interested” in one girl which is not Bluebell so I don’t think it’s a breeding problem as none of my other girls have any injuries like this. She does not use it at all and when I pick her up and move it around it just flops loosely. She doesn’t seem to feel it at all! Is there anything I can do for her? I don’t have a vet near us to take her to. I tried separating her for the last couple of days with no improvement. She just hops on one leg until she tires and then just sits. She will swim when we put her in the water but does not use the other leg at all. Is there anything I can do for her? Thanks in advance!

Could be she has broken it. Best to put her where she has to rest it so she doesn’t make it worse. If you can put another female with her. I have a runner female who is recovering from over mating and I put another female with her. They can all still see everyone but this gives them time to heal. Breaks and even sprains take a good while to heal. Water therapy is a good thing though just don’t let her try and get in and out by herself. Also B complex is good for leg health support TSC carries one brand name Durvet 1 ml daily over a favorite treat. Have you examined the leg completely feel along it gently for a break redness swelling or extra heat?

It doesn’t seem swollen anywhere and my husband and I both felt the area and can’t feel a break of any kind. I will get that at TSC first thing tomorrow for her, thank you!

Update on my little girl Blue, she started stretching her injured leg out today and tried taking a couple of hesitant steps on it tonight when heading in to her shelter. It made my heart so happy! Fingers crossed it gets even better over the next week or two 🤞🏻🤞🏻 thanks everyone for all your advice!

Even happier news for my Blue girl, she is now taking small, quick steps with her hurt leg and instead of lifting it up in between to hold it tightly to her body she keeps it resting on the ground. I still don’t see any swelling and she still doesn’t seem bothered when we touch it or try to manipulate it in any way. Regardless, this duck momma is just so thankful to see her using her leg again! The flock still stays by her through the fence and tries to “protect” her from me whenever I go in to check on her as well, huge relief!
