I have a silkie who is recovering from a lice infestation and a yeast and bacterial Infection. I have been giving her antibiotics the vet gave me and slowly but surely she is coming back. She was 1.4lbs when I took her in she was so bony. I feed my chickens hi layer feed and I have vitamins in her water . As a treat she will get what they call chicken crack that has corn meal works and sunflower seeds and something else. I just want to know how else I can help her put on some weight and get back to herself? She was so weak and wobbly.

Thanks I appreciate any info

If I were you I'd make some scrambled egg and give her that; that's what I give to poorly chickens and it works well as it's high in protein which is what they need. Also mealworms are good and a range of vegetables.

How many times a week could I do that?

You can give it to her everyday, it won't do her any harm. When I had a bird with wry neck I fed her as much as she wanted which amounted to about one egg a day. I used to scramble the whole thing including the shell. I know people think it will start them eating their own eggs but that's not been a problem; I don't actually think they know what it is when it's cooked.

Fresh sweet corn is best for gaining weight

Thank you! I fed another one to her tonight. :)

My silkies don't like wheat (or really need it as part of their diet) and whole oats either. Are you giving them steel cut oats. Many thanks. Cheers
