Hi,

I've had my embden geese for a couple of days now and am having a rather difficult time finding out what is NOT good for them or even potentially dangerous. I've given them grass clippings, little cracked corn, watermelon, romaine lettuce, and green pepper. They are a little anxious about their recent move & subsequent confinement so I am assuming that is why they haven't eaten much.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

i think all of those are fine! I've heard onions are not good for them, as are potato plants and tomato plants. In my experience - geese are pretty good at telling what they like and don't like, and generally won't eat the stuff that isn't good for them.

Also, anything moldy is a no because of infections . . . and too much bread / processed food is bad too . . . as well as medicated feeds and feeds high in protein. Really, their diet is 90% grass, and they love the stuff!

Wish I could convince them that thistles are really yummy breakfast foods -- but so far, it is a no go . . .

Thanks for the response.

I finally got them to eat SOMETHING! I've been worried sick as they hadn't touched anything I'd given them until last night. Dandelions & grass did the trick...and lots of it!
