Okay, So I got my laying hens a couple of weeks ago. I was using the feed I got with them and I added new things to it, like hard white wheat, split peas, and lentils. I'm currently running out of the main feed and looking to use things I have available around the house. What can I throw together for a good feed for my girls? (I have hard white wheat, split peas, lentils, old fashioned oats, and pearl barley right now) Can I just mix all that together and feed em? Is there anything else I should add to it?
Also, How much should I be feeding them per day? I have 17, which I don't think all are laying, but I've still got to figure out how to tell that! They are in a run during the day and we throw things like weeds, dry meal worms, and sunflower seeds, kitchen veggie/fruit scraps, and they get buttermilk or yogurt ( a couple look like they may have pasty butts) sometimes. Currently I've been feeding them about a quart, morning and night. Is that too much? or not enough?
Thanks So much!!
