What color Ameraucana rooster should I get?

I have 3 splash Ameraucana ordered. I want to order an Ameraucana rooster. I have been looking at the Blue, Black & Splash. My fave is the Splash. The color is so pretty, but would only get Splash colored offspring. I would also like to use the Ameraucana rooster to breed the black copper Marans I have ordered. What would a splash Ameraucauna rooster x black copper Marans look like?

I wouldn't use a splash. breeding splash to splash can cause the chicks to look washed out. If you use a blue you will get blue and splash chicks, if you use a black you will get all blue chicks.
Splash Ameraucana over a black copper marans will give you blue chickens that resemble Ameraucana based Olive eggers/easter eggers, some leg feathering if the marans is feather legged. possibly some copper on the neck

Thanks. I will go with the blue rooster. I’m so excited for this little breeding project. I’m still pretty new to chickens. I started a year ago. This will be my first rooster. I have mixed feelings about adding a rooster. I just hope he will be a good one.

Good luck with your project. I wanted to do the same thing this year with marans and Welsummer but I already have an EE cockerel that is very good. So I decided to just get a Welsummer cockerel and kept all the brown egg layers separate. I’ll use the EE cockerel for the EE and white Leghorn hens. Keep us up to date!
