What color does a blue chick/chicken look like?

I have some mix chicks that are a grey/silver color and when I see chickens on Backyard Chicken that are called blue, they look silver/grey to me. This is one here:


He is more silver and grey now than then, that was about a week ago and he still had some yellow on his chest.

This is my blue Orpington. She is a darker bluey grey, not a light silver grey. If they are lighter, they are often lavender rather than blue....my lavender Orp chicks looked just like yours when they were little.

Now, see, this is the sort of thing I'm talking about, photos don't give the look that seeing them in person does. The first photo makes her look a lighter and darker shade of brown while the second picture looks a grey/blue/black/white. She's lovely, is she sitting eggs?

The brown you can see is actually the Brahma girl sitting next to her....and yes, they were both broody!

I don't have many piccies showing her 'in full' that are very clear. Here she is again but it's a bit blurry....



And here are the lavender Orp chicks I mentioned, in the middle, left and centre....very similar to yours.....a silvery grey with yellow....


and here, a bit younger, centre and right of centre.....

Yes, that is what he looked like when he was a baby but his father is my Crested Polish so he has a little puff on his head. Elvis is wet here. It had been raining.
