what color is this?

Curious, sex and color name for this one.

I bought Jumbo pharoh corturnix, and a couple A&M were in there. This one has looked different since hatch. They are 6 weeks old today.

Ive never done vent sexing but have heard of it. What in the world is beer sex? LOL (please dont take umbrage at my gaff) Get them drunk and observe behavior? LOL

Yes, it is a Rosetta, aka British Range. Vent sexing an adult, breeding-age coturnix is easy. Hold the bird with its head between your pointer and middle fingers and grasp the rest of the bird with your other fingers. Make sure you grab it from the 'top' and hold the head so it can't push out of your hand. Flip it over on its back. If it's a male there will be a large swollen gland right behind the vent. When you push on this gland a white foam will come out.

Another way to tell is after they've started laying eggs. You can tell by the 'gap' between the pelvic bones. The male's gap will be about 1/2" wide and the female's will be twice as wide. It's easier to tell that way if you have 2 or more birds the same age to compare.

"Beer" sexing is basically sitting and watching the birds until someone crows. If you put the bird in a pen alone where it can't see the others it should crow if it's going to.

Thanks all! I guess the kid had some and threw a few odd eggs in to make up the 100 I bought. Very pretty! and she/he comes toward me when I go in - where the others walk away.

Wish there was a pair of them.
Some of them are just now beginning to crow. I havent seen any copulation at all yet, so not quite mature?

Maybe Ill leave it to the beer sexing (can it be done with vodka?
