what color silkie chick? Updated with pics pg2

Actually mottle babies look like little penguins. Black from the head to the rump along the back; white or light yellow from the rump up the belly to the head. Primaries are often white.

I had one hatch yesterday morning that is white with a few spots...

I asked about its color as well and told that it is probably a Splash. The person I got eggs from does have Splashes in her Silkie pen. I can't wait to see how this one turn out.

After getting to get the babies out and handle them and get a good look. I think this baby is splash also here is some pictures of it.

That is not a splash.

Does the person you got the eggs from have a mixed flock?

Well, I didn't say mine was mottled, just it looks like it, its similar as it grows out. Its really too early to tell.

Actually sunangels is closer to mine, that teresaann's.

I have had splash chicks before and nothing like the ones I have.

I do not think he had any mixed colors. I am thinking that chick may be from my own hen. She is black and she is penned at the moment with a white roo.

Partridge down can vary quite a lot. And with shredded silkie feathers you can't even tell for sure that a partridge has the correct pattern of penciling. There are a number of varieties that have various different striping patterns on the down.

I have several chicks that are feathering out right now and they do NOT have the partridge pattern, (although they were chipmunk striped as babies) but it is close enough that a judge who looked at them this weekend told me that they would be considered partridge in silkies.
