@Jrd7788 - in the first pic, does the bird on the right have a tail bar?
I don’t know what a tail bar is lol. I don’t know much about pigeons, I just got them a few months ago from a lady who gave me 16 for free1: does the bird have a tail bar?it could be a recessive red, or a washed out red T-check.
A tail bar is a slight discoloring (darker or lighter to the body color) in the tail. It is a band about an inch from the tip of a tail. Both of these bird have tail bars. This is #1 and I think it’s a male if that helpsView attachment 2538214View attachment 2538216View attachment 2538217View attachment 2538218
Thank you! So if I were to breed this one with a female red ash check do you think the squabs would come out recessive red or red ash check? Furthermore if a pigeon lost its mate will it NEVER EVER mate again? I lost one to an eagleA tail bar is a slight discoloring (darker or lighter to the body color) in the tail. In your bird, it doesn't have a tail bar. So it is a recessive red.recessive red is a rare color, congratulations!
Unless the hen carries recessive red recessively, they will be red checks. Two copies of the gene must be present, but not visible, to produce recessive reds.So if I were to breed this one with a female red ash check do you think the squabs would come out recessive red or red ash check?
They will remate, but it may take some time. Pigeons aren't as faithful as most research says.Furthermore if a pigeon lost its mate will it NEVER EVER mate again? I lost one to an eagleand want to breed the other one in the pair but the lady I got them all from told me the other one won’t ever breed again. It also happens to be #1 who is the remaining pair member. And the other , the female was asolid red colored one with white flight feathers and a red tail.
Ok, I see no tail band And not ash red. Maybe recessive red like @backyard pigeons mentioned. This is #1 and I think it’s a male if that helpsView attachment 2538214View attachment 2538216View attachment 2538217View attachment 2538218
