What comes first egg or mating

i was setting by the duck pool yesterday and my male Rouen x magpie, got on the female RxM and was doing the deed, the female is 4 months and his about 3 1/2 months, I haven't seen her lay a egg any where, so i'm wondering if she will be laying soon.

well my drakes always start getting on my ladies about a mth or so BEFORE they start laying
