I bought some eggs on eBay... Two started developing, one of which was in the incubator because it had a ruptured air cell (it started to develop and quit about half way through), the other was under a chicken hen. At three weeks, the egg under the hen was looking good. Day 28 came, no chick. I candled the egg real quick and thought I saw movement, but it could have been my eyes playing tricks on me. I was looking really close and if it was actually movement it was faint. I put the egg back under the hen (not easy to get it or put it back, the hen was very protective), and worried, I came in and looked in the sticky. It said 28 to 30 days. That made me feel a bit better... Day 29, went out to check, hen was still sitting on an egg. Day 30, same story. Today is day 31. I went to check, still an egg. I brought it in to the house to candle (I wanted a dark room). After staring intently for a while, I thought I saw movement. I finally decided that it was actually my eyes playing tricks on me so I took the egg out and gently broke it open. It contained a fully formed chick, yolk sac absorbed and everything, but it was dead. What could have gone wrong?

Thank you MinxFox... Looking at what is in the information, I'm going to guess that maybe it was the parent stock? I got six eggs, two arrived with ruptured air cells. Of the four that I placed under the hen, 2 candled clear and one had dark liquid in the egg at the 2 week point, I was surprised to see an egg that bad at that point so I wonder... This was the only egg that made it this far. It looked absolutely perfect apart from the fact that it was dead. The seller did offer to send me a few more eggs if I paid postage, now I am really glad that I declined (I didn't take him up on it because I felt if it was from shipping, he couldn't control that). But I could have paid shipping for more and still had no chicks to show for it. Just so sad...

It wouldn't be so bad, but my hen hasn't laid any eggs at all this year (she is three and started last year). I have them on gamebird breeder, last year I didn't know they would start laying as two year olds (I thoght they started at 3) and had them on gamebird maintenance. Now the cock is dropping his train

I guess no peachicks this year unless I find some local or buy eggs from somebody else.

I have a Dark Pied Black Shoulder cock and a Silver Pied hen along with their Silver Pied cock from last year...

Frosty-
I have mine on chicken layer nothing else per Deerman LOL! I had 2 hens in with my charcoal white eye and lost one. The one that died was the only one laying. I had a purple BS hen from Deerman that just wanted in that pen so I let her. She started laying and a week later the other split to charcoal hen started laying as well. In my other pen with the Pied male I have a white who has been laying but will not breed with the male? Today the female pied started laying and she too will not breed with the Pied male. All he does is attack the girls. All "his" eggs are clear but the Charcoal's are ALL fertile. I do not know if the babies from the purple BS hen will be split to charcoal or not?

I purchased "goose rails" for my bator off Ebay for $37 and was the best investment I ever made. I have one hatched chick and another just hatched today and all the rest have growth inside. I never had that before and never even got an egg to actually hatch until this month! If I get anything fertile from my Pied I would be happy to send you some eggs, you could be my "test" shipment.
