I have a BO hen that is around 11 months old who just suddenly stopped laying. She hasnt layed in 1 1/2-2 weeks and refuses to allow the rooster to mate her anymore. She wasnt like this before. She doesnt seem sick but did have runny poo so I gave her a dose of Ivermectin pour on a couple of days ago thinking maybe she had worms. I have seen no change. No eggs and no mating but she seems fine otherwise. She eats and drinks like always and acts healthy.

Anybody have any idea what could be wrong? The rest are laying fine.

Sometimes they just take breaks. Has anything changed in her diet? I would imagine if she was eggbound you'd know by now.. We've had some of ours take breaks before... the longest lasted 1 month, but that hen had laid a monster egg. If everything seems fine with her health wise I would'nt stress it just yet.

I too have a 9 month old buff Brahama bantam that hasn't laid an egg in about 10 days and she was laying about 5 eggs a week before. She acts the same, just isn't laying. I felt around her abdomen to see if I could feel anything but didn't. I too am a bit worried - talk of internal laying and egg bound hens scares me, but I am just going to keep an eye on her for now.

Reassurance from other BYCers that their girls take breaks occasionally would be appreciated. I am the nervous mother type.

I'm going through the same thing with my EE. She was laying every other day, and now no egg for about 10 days. (I'm losing count.) She seems otherwise healthy...

Krstms, my Brahma laid an egg today after taking about two weeks off from laying. The egg looked perfectly normal, her regular size and color. I guess she really did need a break! The only change that had changed in her little world is that her best friend went broody. I don't see how that could have affected her egg laying, but as sensitive as animals are, it would not surprise me at all! Since I don't have a rooster, I had to break the broody girl (a Silkie) and that happened about five days ago. Good luck with your BO!

Oh good!! That helps me feel better. Hopefully mine is just taking a break too.
