What crazy lengths do you go to for your gals?

That sounds like a fantastic trip! Crazy lengths I have gone to for my hens..... Let me count the ways. Raised meal worms? Check. 'Train' the chickens with the meal worms to come running when called in case I ever need to get them back in the run in a hurry? Yes. Bring the hens out to the garden when I turn over the soil so they can have a feast? Yep. Grow extra leafy green veggies? Yep, half the garden this year is planted in leafy greens for us and the birds. Bring not one but Two nearly naked molting hens into the house when they decided to drop their feathers late in Nov and the weather turned to freezing fog and drizzle for 2 weeks. Check, check, cluck, cluck.

Same with you guys, the temps have been in the 90s and 100s here in Alabama. I've been buying fresh melons and feeding them to my chickens.. my family is like, hello? what about us???

Buy your own melons!

Well, first, i have each breed in an individual pen with their own coup, except for the 3 growout pens.
Next, i have autowater cup system to supply water to all my birds.
Then i have fans and a mister system for hot days ( i also sell the parts for this system).
I mow the yard and rake up the clippings for nestbox material.
I buy veggies/fruits once in a while from roadside stands and give to my birds.
I installed an electric fence around all my pens.
I have a bug zapper on at night, so the first freerangers of the day can eat the bugs it zaps.
I free range my breeds in turns, until dark everyday.
When i hear an alarm call, i always go out to see what their problem is.

My family thinks i have gone to far caring for my birds. When we had chickens when i was young, we just turned them loose in the yard and let nature take it's course.

I have been known to do similar too. My family think i am mad too lol

I will often take one or another of my trio on errands or vacations, many times have I smuggled one or two chickens into a hotel room (one time, all three). They also get safe table scraps, and not only are my three house chickens, but if they wish, they can roost anywhere they want.
