What did my chicken poop out?!

What in the actual heck is this?! One of our hens just pooped it out. She's strictly on store bought feed - no free ranging (she's blind and stays indoors). It's hard as a rock...and reminds me of an ovary and fallopian tube.

Cut it in two to look at the contents. It is a lash egg or caseous exudate from salpingitis, a common reproductive disorder. It is made up of pus and usually some egg material. Here is some reading:

Is it my imagination @Eggcessive or is it more common this time of year to see a rash of lash eggs happening at the same time?

Are they more common as the days get longer and the egg factories switch back on, then suddenly there’s physical evidence of this malfunction that’s laid dormant, and accumulating over winter?
 
I don’t know if it happens more often this time of year or not. Many times the lash eggs will be scarfed up by the other chickens or the hen herself who thinks it is a snack—yuck! I have a bunch of older hens, and I have only seen one when I did a necropsy last year. It was inside the abdomen. Some get very large.
