So this morning when we opened up the coop door, our white leghorn, buttercup, came walking out with mud ALL over her back. She didn't go to bed like this. What happened??

I would say that is poop:lol: It never fails that a white bird is going to get poop on them:rolleyes:

She may dust bath and preen it off or if she is agreeable, you can give that area a quick rinse (if she is like mine, good luck:cool:)

Ok, She probably won't enjoy a quick rinse, but they all take a dust bath every Saturday. (Isn't it strange that they take a dustbath on the same day every week) So I guess I'll just wait until tomorrow evening and she should be clean.

Leghorns are not keen getting a bath from humans:)

That is funny that they all just take a bath on Saturdays.

She got pooped on. :sick :th
She probably lost her roosting spot to a more dominant hen and slept under them. Sometimes the ones at the bottom of the pecking order doesn't get to roost. You might want to add another roosting spot that is too low to be appealing to the 'big shots'.

Good. No sense in bathing them unless absolutely necessary. Apart from the stress of handling, bathing can make their feathers lose protective oils.
