I was giving my girl Pinky some NutriDrench, squirting it onto her tongue, and she seems to have somehow gotten some into her windpipe. I hear gurgling and she keeps opening her beak. She is not struggling for breath put I'm scared and it's all my fault. Any advice on how to help her? Will she be okay?

I don't hear any gurgling but she is doing a strange chewing motion with her beak.
Ok. I'm thinking she'll come out of it, but watch her closely until she does in case she takes a turn for the worst.

With the NutriDrench, I've never used it, but is it something you can just put in her water so this doesn't happen again?

I could put it in the water, but then she wouldn't get the full dose right away, and I needed her to get the meds in her quickly to make sure she gets all of it and the other chickens don't get any. She's recovering from wry neck so I've been giving her supplements.

Immediate concern is drowning (she’s fine!) and long term is aspiration pneumonia. Oil based liquids (mineral oil) are bad news. Water based (with salts and sugars, assuming that’s what’s in your drench) aren’t usually a big deal. It feels weird so she may make weird faces and wretch for a day or two but should come out of it. Watch for breathing difficulty, lethargy, off feed, off by herself, etc over the next week and get her on antibiotics if pneumonia does develop.

Tysm!! The NutriDrench is mainly watered-down molasses but I don't think she inhaled too much... 😅

For wry neck, the recommended treatment is one of your Vit E pills whole, if Pinky is an adult. Then give some scrambled eggs after the E. That's got selenium she'll need to absorb the E.

You do this for about two weeks and evaluate if it's working or not and decide to continue or not.

Don't open the Vit E and mix into something as she won't eat it. Been there, done that.

Thanks! I thought I should mention that she's blind, too, and has been her whole life. I've been giving her lots of diff supplements that have vit e and she's doing pretty well. Thx!
