It's definitely a cockerel. I'm guessing Australorp as the breed, as that seems to be the most common black breed these days.

At age 8 weeks, with a comb and wattles that big and bright, I think your bird is a male.

I'm guessing Australorp as the breed, as that seems to be the most common black breed these days.

I agree that Black Australorp seems likely.
