What do you chicks feed FF in?

I just got some new baby CX and started them on Fermented Feed as soon as the first batch was ready. They seem to like it, but I'm not sure how to feed them a day's supply before I leave for work. The regular chick feeder doesn't seem to work because the moist FF doesn't flow out of the bottom. So far I've given them a small amount on a plate, and they gobble it right up, but also stand and poop in it.

A y suggestings

I'm not doing FF for all day long, just a snack in the mornings. But, the first week or so I used the screw on chick feeder without the jar. Just filled it up and set it in the brooder. When their heads got too big for the holes, I switched over to the 18" long plastic chick feeder but I took the top off of it. I used a couple of big zip ties and attached it to a 2"x4". It raised it up a little higher and made it more difficult to turn over.

I can't think of a way to give them a days worth of FF though. Someone's photos that I've seen here uses plastic drywall mud pan set in a wood frame. You could put something above it to keep them from climbing in.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the reply,

I've been feeding the chicks FF on a little plate in their brooder and it always seems to be gone when I come back and check an hour or two later. I guess I have to give them regular feed when I'm going to be gone for more than a few hours...unless anyone else has suggestions.

For the baby chicks, I have a small feeder that is a trough with adjustable legs so I can try to keep ahead of their growth...yes, they do stand in the feed. When they're a little larger, I have a plastic gutter piece from Menards that I mounted to the side of the wall of the tractor.

Yes, the chicks will stand in the feed - and yes, it disappears quickly. So, give them some dry chick feed about an hour after the ff if you can - then they'll eat the chick feed while you're gone. Then, give ff when you get home.

Any suggestings

This is an old thread, but I thought I'd contribute in case someone searches. I use ice cube trays. They work perfectly. Just use as many as you need depending on how many chicks you have. I like that the cubes give everyone a little space for eating. They are cheap and can be cleaned up easily.
