We have a partridge rock roo that I absolutely love. Up until now he usually chased after my kids and hubby but never did me. I used to think that was funny until he charged at me recently. I know he is probably protecting his girls but what do you do to curtail this?

Yup, excellent articles! And the suggestions really work! We haven't had any trouble with our roo for a month after he cornered my son in the tar weed and repeatedly bit him until DH could intervene.

Just remember that everyone has to be consistent!!!

Good luck with your naughty boy!

Nope, that's not an option. We don't eat our chickens and I won't rehome him just for doing something he instinctively does. I promised the chickens they have a home here until they go to chicken heaven.

What is the name of the byc member who posted the article? I'd love to read her suggestions albeit they are humane. LOL

the OP was RoosterRed just search rooster behavior by him. I have three roosters that attack me. They are my breeding roo's. I put up with Casper as he is on the endangered list (white orp). He is the worst he has bitten me,broken the tip of my finger. and spiked me. I don't go into the coop without a net and I am not afraid to use it. Spike just started his charging but he bite my leg this past week. So I now go into his coop with the same fishing net. Freck has always been mean, he charges everyone so I haven't given him the opportunity to get me. I use my net. When they see me open the door with the net they usually go outside into the run. Only occassionally will they try a sneak attack as I leave the coop. They protect their girls but eventually they will have to go. When I have their offspring to breed that will be that. I tried some of Rooster Red's methods but they did not work for me. Good luck its worth a try. Micki

I cull them. I don't know how old your kids are, but you need to keep him away from them. Getting spiked by a rooster is no fun and can cause quite a slash. If he does that to one of your kids you may change your mind about putting him in the stew pot.

A ranch I worked at had a very aggressive RIR and he used to attack me, my husband, the horses and cattle, the owner's wife. One day when he came at me, I smacked him upside the head with a pvc pipe. He walked crooked for a few days.

It wasn't until the ranch owner was attacked that he killed it. He (the human) was a jerk and found it hilarious when that rooster would attack people and livestock.

About three weeks ago I saw my blue Orpington rooster coming at me out of the corner of my eye. I spun around and popped the tendon in my right leg. It's only been the last week that I've been able to walk without a LOT of pain. That was the straw that... I am now walling in the west end of the barn to make a 12x24 room subdivided for various and chicks and him and maybe his three hens. He's going in there, and he ain'ta never gonna come out. It's either that or rehome him, and I don't want to give someone a mean rooster. The thing is, I really do like the little jerk, and, honestly, I have no amorous feelings for his hens, honestly.
