We raise ours for several months, then decide if we want to use them to increase our flocks, to replace existing birds, or to sell/give away. I have found that people are always in need of chicks/chickens around here, so I haven't had much trouble finding new homes for the ones we decide not to keep. The only thing we haven't done is eat any of them. I just haven't been able to take that step myself. Of course, we started out with one coop/pen and a small flock, then I got hooked on BYC, and we've been adding on to the coops and flocks ever since!!!!
