I live in an area of Phoenix that has acre+ homesteads and is zoned for horses, but the houses are still relatively close together. I am getting some silkies tomorrow and I understand that that it is extremely difficult to sex them at a week old. So, I am getting a few with the hopes of getting a hen out of it. I am sure the neighbor will have something to say if I start having a rooster crow every morning. So, what do you do with them if they are not working out in your flock? I am not sure my neighbors will enjoy a rooster and I am not sure I am up to eating them. yikes

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You can try to rehome them silkies are a popular pet breed, via things like Craigslist, 4-H kids etc, there is also a section in the BYC BST forum for animals in need of free rehoming. Most excess roos do wind up being eaten though, there are just so many more roos than there are homes for.

I'm glad you joined our community!

Good luck with your Silkie chicks!

I would put a roo in a nice basket with a big bow around his neck and give it to the kid next door as a gift..........X each neighbor kid.

Got my tiny Silkie babies. Bought 5 with the thought that I SHOULD get a hen or two. They are all home, warm, with food and water. They are so cute.
