What do you guys do with feeders at night?

I have the feeder inside the hen house 24 -7. That way they can eat in the AM before I let them out. I'm not a morning person.........

My feeders and waterers are out 24/7. They stay in the bottom, enclosed run part of the the tractor so that they can eat in the morning before I get up. (I am so not a morning person) The only ones who don't get food 24/7 are my broilers.

I bring in my feeders in at night to discourage mice.

(don't think they would go in during the day - get pecked on the head for sure)

I have enough trouble remembering and getting around to closing the door at night so my feeders stay put in the coop.

I keep the feeders in the coop for the Big Chickens, new coop. This coop has an automatic door, so they're only restricted from water at night. For the segregated adolescents, their coop has an attached, covered pen, and I leave the feeders & waterers OUT of the coop for them. I have to open that pop door in the morning and close it at night. Water in the big run 24/7 (maybe we get 4 days a year below freezing).

All feeders are either covered up or placed in the coops at night. I have neighbors with nasty setups for game birds and they keep Rats. I try to keep the rats from coming down here. I still have to deal with the Rats every 2-3 months.

This also means that I am out at daylight each morning to open houses and put out food for everyone. That is a total of 9 feed locations + the 2 hens with babies.

Matt
