What do you think about my Roo and his girls?

This is Reggie and his girls (production RIR from Ideal). They are about 13 months old, except two of the hens who are a little younger.

There eggs are darker than this, the flash kinda washed out the color.

I think they are very pretty. The rooster looks better than I would have expected from a hatchery RIR. Not that I have anything against hatchery birds. I love mine. Nice eggs, too!

I think your rooster has an excellent comb. Sometimes, it's hard to get a roo with that perfect single comb shape.

That is one very handsome roo! I'm no expert on what to look for in a RIR but he sure looks good to me. Seems solid, sturdy and healthy.

Thanks guys. Yea, I don't have anything against hatchery birds.

I do however, want to breed 'up' on what I have. I got lucky in picking him. I had no idea about comb/body/feather shape when I chose him to keep. I had kept a second roo for back up, however he was not maturing as nice as I wanted. So down the road he went.

I am looking to get some Heritage RIR eggs to either add to my bloodlines or completely swap out once they are old enough to do so.
