Last summer we got 6 ex-battery hens (our first ever flock!) and they laid like troopers. We were trying to sell out house and move, so my mum took the chickens in the spring, we got into our new house in July and wanted our chickens back but she'd grown rather attached to them and said that their laying had dropped off and maybe we should just rescue some more. In the end we took 2 of our old chickens back (my son's favourites), got 3 new ex-batts and a rooster. We got Mum 2 new hens.

We are getting 3 eggs a day, my Mum is getting 6 . I assume the 3 that we are getting are from the new hens and the older 2 aren't laying anymore. The older ones should be about 2 now, I know battery hens don't live as long, is it normal for them to stop laying at this age too?

Thanks
