Do they look like good quality?

There is nothing wrong with them as pets as long as they are healthy. They are pretty birds. But these particular ones aren't sq.... bills too long, too long through the body, etc. A show quality call is a squat, round little bird with excessively short neck and bill.

Just because a bird doesn't have any DQ's doesn't mean it is SQ.

The first 'show' animal I ever purchased was from a supposed 'reputable' breeder of mini rex when I was in FFA. He sold me a red female that had no DQ's.

I learned, before my first show, that she wasn't good quality. She had a long face (horse face) and a long body. I showed her and she placed dead last. No dq's, but she had no place in the show ring.

Same with silkies,... you can show birds without any DQ's that would never place- or that a judge might refuse to place since they are such poor examples of the breed.

The fellow is not trying to be mean, but trying to be honest. If you look at pictures of call ducks that have won at sanctioned shows you will quickly see the difference. There are a couple white calls that won some shows in 'The Poultry Press' this month.

Now, that said, I bet you would get a much better hatch rate with your pet quality calls than you would with a show quality call flock.

Their colouring is gorgeous, such little cuties. I don't know anything about showing ducks but I got calls as pets and they are greeeat. Snoogly and noisy
