What do you think of this run?

I'm thinking about this run I saw at Home Depot.

What do you think? Also, if I get it I'd put on some type of roof. What's the best material to use and how would I install it?

Looks like the large gaps at the four corners of the door would have to be shored up somehow...

I would be worried unless you fix all the gaps and cover the top. I live on a creek and I even cover the bottom. Every night the coons try to dig under. Looks like a good start tho It woud not be anywhere close enough to secure where I live. May be where you are tho. I would still fill in the gaps for daytime and cover the top.

I also use a run, BUT...mine has all the corners covered up...u might try something like craigslist...they had one a few days ago for 125.00...nice condition....I look under FREE and FARM/GARDEN

i use one like that for my adult silkie pen. i put hardware cloth across the top then pvc panels. i "should" put hardware cloth around the bottom, but have not done that yet.

I have one of those I got from a neighbor when he moved. I use it for my juvies right now. The wire is not very heavyweight and it's not the best quality. Also it's all in one piece once you assemble it and hard to move or add onto. I ran 1" chicken wire around the bottom 3 ft up and across the lower gaps in the door frame, and chicken wire over the top. So far so good for temporary housing but I will be beefing it up when I move it and use it for my ducks. For the same money you can get heavier-weight 10x10x6 chain link panels (4 panels including one with a gate- mine came from Southern States but other farm supply outfits also carry them) which are easier to move, rearrange, add onto, or change however you like it. I've got two of those sets I'm using for my chicken run and planning to buy a third set soon. That's got the wire around the bottom and, once configured just the way I want it will have wire on the ground attached to the bottom of the panels to keep things from digging in. Right now it's just a day run but once it's done I also plan to attach 1x3 boards on the outside of the door facing (going to use 1 inch pipe clamps screwed into the wood- this should address the gaps). I also used pipe clamps to screw the pieces that adjoin the coop to the wall.

Chainlink works fine for a run, you just block the gaps off with pressure-treated boards or some such thing. Attach smaller mesh wire around the inside of the walls for the bottom 2-3' or so to prevent reach-through, and unless it's on a slab attach an apron of several-foot-wide 2x4 welded wire mesh lying on the ground; and you're good to go.

However I would worry that, from appearances and price, that may be very flimsy chainlink. There are flimsy chainlink grades on the market that dogs can rip apart, and you don't want that for a chicken run IMO.

If you want a chainlink dog run for your chickens, either pony up for a heavier duty one, or hang around til you can find a secondhand good-quality one for sale.
