I have some questions. I am going to apoligize in advance for all of them but any help would be appreciated. I am knew to ducks, have chickens, but they are different in many ways.
1. I have two ducks and sometimes they will open their mouths like they are yawning, stick their tongue out just a little and then close it and either go on or act like they pulled something up and chewed it again. Is this normal and what is it?
2. Sometimes when I am holding them and they are asleep it is like there is tiny air bubbles in them that pop. I can't tell if it is at their mouths or in their bodies. I think this only happens when they are asleep but not for sure. Kind of reminds me of a cat purring when they sleep.
What is this and is it normal?
3. I have noticed that just recently they will nibble on EVERYTHING.
They will peck each others bills, toes, and bodies. They also seem to itch or nibble under themselves like on their tummies. I have seem them reach for where the gland would be above their tail but that is not what they are doing when they go under their tummies. What is this?
4. Can ducklings get pasty butt like chicks can?
5. I can't be here all the time during the day and they are in a shed like house where it gets pretty warm. If it is supposed to be 75 or 80 degrees planned for the next day should I leave the brooder lamp on during the day with the windows up or should I turn the light off and roll the windows down. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Like I said sorry for question after question but they all hit me at one time it seems. Thanks for any help.
