What do you use for flooring in your raised coop? I'm contemplating how I can make it easier to clean and not as porous (it is wood) since I'll be covering it with straw and knowing how the chicks poop now, they'll sure be doing a number in the coop when they move there. I was thinking some kind of linoleum (can I get that at Home Depot?) or painting it with exterior grade paint. Any suggestions appreciated.

I am just finishing building my new coop as well. I wanted to install vinyl sheet flooring, but the cost was crazy. The cheapest that I could find here in SC was 69.00 for a 8' x 12' piece. I just painted the floor with some exterior (Latex) paint and let it go at that. I have only $300. total in the coop, so $69. wasn't even going to happen.

I bought a pre-made shed and turned it into a chicken coop. It has just 3/4" plywood as the flooring and I use pine shaving on top of it. The floor is starting to go a little bit so I will need to replace the plywood soon. But it has lasted me 5 years.

Check with some flooring stores---sometimes they will sell you a remnant or roll end cheap, or a piece that has a crease in it so they can't sell it. I got mine for $10 for a 6 X 9 piece. Ugly pattern, but maybe the chickens like it.

sheet vinyl sounds good but the cost, so what about those tile squares, they might work fairly well. you could also try a store that sells remnants or damaged merchandise, or your local craigslist- from a remodel job.

I installed the cheapest laminate tiles I could find. I bought them at Home Depot and I paid about $16 for my 8' x 4' flor. They are holding up fine. I would have loved to have gone with a sheet but cost made it not worth it!

working on our hen house right now, we're going to use concrete because we already have some to use. I've heard it's the easiest to keep clean if you make sure it's smooth. Sound good?

(btw, this is my first post. I'm very new to chickens and this site

Good paint job works, a piece of vinyl kicking around the garage (that's what I have) works, so do vinyl tiles. I would avoid using OSB board for a floor because it would all-of-the-sudden fall apart on you. (I have a barn door doing that this year!)

They WILL BE maintenance at some point on your coop. You just don't want to have to fix it up every year.

Gotta go with the best product at the best cost.

I painted the floor of my coop and then put a piece of vinyl flooring over it - didn't adhere it to the bottom of the coop. I can fold it and pull it out, dump the shavings and hose it down.

I picked up a 5 x 10 scrap from a flooring shop (Mom & Pop - not big box) for $5.00.

Been outside working on the coop all day today. I'm tired. It's not done yet but we decided just to go with plywood instead of the concrete. We used treated wood under it to keep it up off the ground. If we can get some linoleum, that sounds like a great idea.
