As I'm collecting my ducks eggs this spring, I'm going to want to label them by breed and which pen they came out of.

What do you use to label your eggs? Pencil, marker, crayon? Is there anything that isn't safe? If I write on a fertile egg with Sharpie, is the duckling going to hatch with three eyes and only one leg?

Just curious. I don't want to use anything that will leech any harmful chemicals through the shell.

Thanks - I like the idea of being able to color-code things. That way, I can identify the eggs in the incubator with just a glance, rather than having to try and read my pencil scratches through the lid.
