Me again. Same hen I posted about here.
Thread 'Lots of green poop on backside' https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/lots-of-green-poop-on-backside.1686864/

It got cold so I finally got her bathed today and got most of the poo off her. Truthfully, I've never before checked out a chickens nether regions before so I'm not sure what I'm looking at. I've just never had one with problems that needed looked at.

Other than being rather devoid of feathers, (I suspect she lost some from all the poo), things looked pretty pink. I looked pretty carefully and saw no lice or mites. At her belly closest to her tail, like between the legs, she felt rather "puffy" ... not squishy like a water balloon, but soft like a pillow. Nothing feels hot or hard.

She quit laying a couple months ago and had been sporadic before that. She's about 4.

Please don't be mean, but I guess I need a "chicken anatomy for dummies" book. I'm just not sure what to look for or if what I'm seeing is normal.

Attached: one very wet chicken butt.

I don’t know exactly what the ‘puffy’ bit is, but all of my chickens (they’re 7 years old and have no reproductive issues) had it and have had it since they were young, so I wouldn’t be too worried about that. Otherwise she looks pretty normal.

I can’t find any good pictures, but the hole is called the vent or cloaca (I’m not sure on the difference). It’s where the large intestine and oviduct meet, and on your chicken it looks pretty healthy!

May I ask what breed she is? I’m curious as her feather color is the same as one of mine lol.

Thanks so much for responding. She's a barnyard mutt. Some kind of Easter egger, as she has muffs and a beard and lays blue-green eggs, or did. This is her in her prime.

Yours are laying at 7? That's surprising!

She’s gorgeous! And yes, even I was pretty shocked. Ones broody at the moment so we’re only getting 2-3 a day from a flock of 5 which I still think is pretty cool.
