Hi everyone, I have a cross silkie sitting on 2 eggs. One of them you can see a chick moving about inside so we think that is ok but the other one has a huge air sac in it and although we thought at first there was a chick in it we are not so sure now ! Also she will have been sat on them for 21 days on Friday but they do not seem near the stage they should be at. Could they have started to develop a few days after she started to sit on them. We just thought we would try and let her hatch a couple so really new to all this. We have looked at candling pictures etc but really not sure. Any advice appreciated. Thanks Beryl

From my understanding a large air sac is good when you're that far along in the incubation stage...something like not quite half the egg. Possibly you aren't seeing a chick move in there because it's nearing it's time to hatch and is positioning itself for that. Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I thought that the egg would look darker inside than it actually is. I am going to leave them and see what happens as i dont want to disturb her in case they are near to hatching as you kindly suggested. Thanks again

Just another thing that popped into my head...When you've looked at the egg in question and are spinning it, does the dark seem to "follow" your every turn?? Have you ever gotten it to "flow" into the air sac area?? Like a thick, runny liquid? If so, then it's a rotten egg. One of my broodies is on day 18 today so I'm with ya' on the nervousness of it all! Good luck!

It does not go into air sac but just kind of floats as we move egg round. We can see heart beating in the other one but this one seems very small in comparison ? Good luck with yours and I will keep you posted .
