I have a RIR runt hen that is the lowest on the pecking order that I named bandit because of the way she makes sure she gets her share of the treats we put out. One day my wife was hand feeding the flock and I noticed the runt couldn't get in on the action of the feeding frenzy. My wife had a large plastic glass full of scratch and poured some in one hand and set the glass down next to her, while all the other hens were going crazy feeding from her hand not letting the little one feed, the little one saw where my wife put the glass of scratch, I noticed the little hen stand still as tho she was thinking and then proceeded to sneak around my wifes back and go up to the glass and stick her head in and gobbled up several beakfuls and run off for a few moments and run back to do the same thing several times while the others were feeding from DW's hand. My wife never noticed till I was laughing outloud and gave away the little hens theft, thus the name bandit. She still to this day sneaks up on the feeding larger hens from behind and reaches over under and steals whatever is in the other hens beaks, I cheer her on every time!!
Do any of your runts do funny things?
