This is a 2-week old Silkie chick that I purchased as a day old chick from my local Tractor Supply. I'm new to Silkie chicks, so I can't figure out what her/his feather color is! Can anyone help?

At first I thought s/he was a Buff colored chick, but then this pencilling, or barring, started coming out on the wing feathers. Is s/he a partridge, or maybe a project feather color?

I'd love to hear opinions!

That was my guess! Thanks for taking time to post.

Any other thoughts, anyone?

I'll post more photos as s/he gets older (oh, and fingers crossed it's a pullet!)

Could be a partridge but I had a silkie a longgg time ago that was buff colored in the body and had grey/brown on the wings and tail. Looked very much like your little guy.

Interesting! You know, you might be right! The chick does have a darker brown/gray patch on her back, so that could be what she'll grow into.

I'll try to post a photo update next week, when she'll be 3 weeks old.

I've had some cool looking silkies over the years that I know weren't standard colors, but I loved them! The black-tailed buff looking one I had was part of my original group of chickens. She was such a sweet hen.

That's not partridge. I raise partridge and blacks. The partridge ones are much darker as chicks, almost a chocolate color with gold flecks. I am not sure what color your chicks is, but I would guess buff or buff mix. Super cute!

Aw, thanks!

Yes, I imagine she's going to be both hatchery quality in terms of confirmation, and probably a color that's not pure/recognized. Not complaining though! She was only $3.99 and an impulse purchase at Tractor Supply when I was picking up chicken feed.

My only requirement is that it ends up being a pullet - fingers FIRMLY crossed on that one!

Hurrah! That's promising then. I didn't realize position of the crest was a good indicator of sex. I'll keep watching that closely!

I'll try to post a photo update next Wednesday, when she'll be exactly 3 weeks...
