My son recently purchased 6 (received 7 through shipping) Golden Duckwing Phoenix Standard chicks for his 4-H project, only came straight run. We've never used this hatchery and all but 2 died in the shipping process. It was terribly sad opening up that box. He needs to have one hen and one rooster for his project, but I wasn't hopeful that would happen with the remaining 2. The hatchery utterly refused to replace them even though they claim they will in the paperwork and online. They say that they can't trust usps, but they are continuing to ship with them for other orders. Anyways, recently they seem to be developing differently. Is anyone familiar with this breed? I've attached several photos. In the first two photos chick "A" has a larger redder comb and red where the wattles grow. In the next three photos chick "B" has a very small yellow comb and no red where the wattles grow. Am I just being hopeful for a male and female and they're just developing at different rates?
