Hello, is it possible to tell the gender of this 8 week old silkie (mix)?
Her mom was a full silkie, the orange color this one is, and the dad I have no clue what he was.
She has the 5 toes, and dark skin. Thank you
Pretty bird! From the comb and streamers I'd guess rooster, but the stance looks like a pullet. Darn those silkies!! You could try posting on the . . . oh you just did
More upright: your photos look like she holds her back more or less horizontally. I'm still new to silkies, I have 2 the same age as yours and it looks like I have one of each: my 'roo' has a longer tail, spends more of his time with head and neck up high and is less 'clingy' towards his adopted mama (a 10 week old brahma). I could be wrong . . . the fun of silkies
Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in on the silkie sexing thread.
Thanks, this little one is very VERY clingy to the adoptive mama that hatched her. If mama gets out of her sight she chirps very very loudly. I have a second chick mama hatched, hes a frizzle silkie mix but has a huge red comb and wattles, and tries to crow, so I am sure hes a he. He was very clingy in the beginning, but now not so much. Thanks for your replies
"He" is super cute! Our gray silkie looked like this as a chick and I found out this morning when he crowed at me that he's a rooster. The only difference between him and the other silkie (a pullet) is that he's bigger and has large, really blue "ears." He's super sweet. I love this breed.
I think it is a cockerel - that comb!!! But, I want it to be a pullet. What a sweet little face. I have to think she is more like 2/3 rds silkie than half. Wonder if papa had some silkie blood.
