What herbs are safe for hens to eat?

I've read in many other books that there are herbs that you can give to your chickens..... But I'm kinda clueless as to what to give them! I want to be sure before I set out any herbs for them to eat.... I don't want to have any risk of poisoning or sickness, because I'm just getting eggs from my first hens!

I have some herbs growing around the yard. When the chickens free-range, they don't eat any of them. I would not spend any time or money providing herbs for them, based upon my observations.

My chickens spend all their roaming time digging up critters and eating weeds. They don't eat the tomatoes that grow next to their run, when they are out. On the other hand, they are frantic to eat tomatoes thrown into the run when they are confined. It may be a matter of what is available to them.
