In all seriousness though... chickens are flightless birds that were genetically engineered by humans. They come from a species of bird called the Jungle Fowl from southeast Asia. Humans chose desirable traits like egg production, broodiness, and muscle mass. Humans also chose designer traits like feather coloring, egg coloring, comb type, etc. Through generations of breeding desired traits, the modern chickens that we know and love were created! New breeds are still being created like the Mosaics or Isabella Leghorns. So, "What's a chicken?" -- Anything that hails from the mighty Jungle Fowl!
